Training Outline

The ZJX ARTCC Training Program is a comprehensive program that teaches you the fundaments of virtual Air Traffic Control and how to work out practical problems on your own. During instruction, you, the student, are constantly challenged at each stage, but the training staff is always available to provide guidance and help you towards your goals. It is essential that all controllers read, understand, and abide by the Jacksonville ARTCC Training Policy and Guidelines

Reminder: Before a student can request any training in the ARTCC, they must complete the ZJX SOP Course found in the VATUSA Academy.

I just graduated from the VATUSA academy
Congrats on your graduation. You have begun the process of becoming a controller. Now is the time to advance your knowledge with ARTCC specific training.

  • Request Training: Proceed to your profile to request training.
  • Assigned a mentor when one is available
  • Complete ZJX ARTCC S1 Training; found at either the VATUSA Academy or Trainingzjxartcc.org
  • Completion of ZJX Checkout Examination
  • Upon completion of all requirements, students shall be promoted to the rank of S1 and granted minor ground certification on the ZJX website.

S1 Controller Requesting S2
Complete thirty (30) hours of controlling at current rating/endorsement before requesting training.

  • Complete the VATUSA Academy S2 Course
  • Request Training: Proceed to your profile to request training.
  • Assigned a mentor when one is available
  • Complete ZJX ARTCC S2 Training; found at the VATUSA Academy
  • Completion of ZJX OTS Examination
  • Upon completion of all requirements, students shall be promoted to the rank of S2 and granted minor tower certification on the ZJX website.

S2 Controller Requesting S3
Complete thirty (30) hours of controlling at current rating/endorsement before requesting training.

  • Complete the VATUSA Academy S3 Course
  • Request Training: Proceed to your profile to request training.
  • Assigned a mentor when one is available
  • Complete ZJX ARTCC S3 Training; found at the VATUSA Academy
  • Completion of ZJX OTS Examination
  • Upon completion of all requirements, students shall be promoted to the rank of S3 and granted minor tracon certification on the ZJX website.

S3 Controller Requesting C1
Complete thirty (30) hours of controlling at current rating/endorsement before requesting training.
Prior to beginning, students must have completed all Major Endorsement

  • Complete the VATUSA Academy C1 Course
  • Request Training: Proceed to your profile to request training.
  • Assigned a mentor when one is available
  • Complete ZJX ARTCC C1 Training; found at the VATUSA Academy
  • Completion of ZJX OTS Examination
  • Upon completion of all requirements, students shall be promoted to the rank of C1 and granted centern certification on the ZJX website.
